A Vision for Vancouver's Future

Nestled in the heart of Vancouver, Little Mountain represents a transformative community designed by Holborn Properties. This ambitious development will bring approximately 1,600 new homes to one of the city’s most coveted locations and a thriving hub where neighbours can connect and culture can flourish.

Alongside our agency partners, Free Agency Creative, we set out to tell the story of Little Mountain’s unique position at the intersection of urban vitality and natural splendor — where the creative energy of Main Street flows seamlessly into the lush greenery of Queen Elizabeth Park. Our goal, alongside Holborn and FAC, was to show this project’s ambition through a vibrant lifestyle film, paired with true-to-life stories of the Visionaries behind both the development and cornerstones of the neighbourhood itself.

The Challenge

For the Masterplan video, our challenge was to capture the vibrancy of one of Vancouver’s coolest neighbourhoods. We needed to visually translate what it means to live at the crossroads of urban fun and natural beauty. This meant filming the bustling energy of Main Street’s independent boutiques and Michelin-certified restaurants, the relaxed cafe culture that defines the area, and the breathtaking visuals of Queen Elizabeth Park – while maintaining a cohesive narrative that felt organic rather than staged. Timing was crucial: we had to capture golden-hour light in the park, busy morning rushes at local hotspots on Main Street, and the neighbourhood’s genuine rhythm without disrupting or shutting down streets entirely. Coordinating shoots across multiple locations while maintaining visual consistency and securing buy-in from various businesses required meticulous planning and flexibility.

Our plan for the more documentary-style Visionaries video presented an entirely different creative challenge. To convey what makes the Little Mountain neighbourhood so special, we wanted to go beyond aesthetics and dive into grass roots human stories. We identified and interviewed local business owners, entrepreneurs, and community visionaries who could speak from experience about the area’s unique character and opportunities. The challenge here was building trust quickly; encouraging subjects to open up on camera about their passion for the neighbourhood, their business journeys, and their vision for the community’s future. We balanced intimate, conversational interviews with b-roll that showed these businesses in action. Each beat needed to convey that this project isn’t just about a development – it’s about being an integral part of what makes the neighbourhood extraordinary.

The Results

To bring the Masterplan video to life, we developed a precise shooting schedule that leveraged filming at the best times of day in order to capture the neighbourhood’s full character. We secured permits and built relationships with local businesses in advance, allowing us to film during peak hours without disruption. Our cinematography approach mixed dynamic handheld shots that immersed viewers in the street-level energy. From morning coffee and people watching at Coco et Olive, to shopping at fun boutiques like Hey Jude – we painted a picture of what a day out on Main Street can look like. Using a mixture of cast background and distant real people, we pushed to convey the true rhythm of the community – showing a lifestyle narrative that feels aspirational but real.

For the Visionaries video, our solution centered on building genuine connections with local stakeholders through a collaborative approach. We spent weeks, alongside our partners, researching potential subjects to find articulate, passionate business owners and community leaders whose stories naturally embodied Little Mountain’s ethos. We complemented these interviews with carefully composed b-roll that showcased each business’s unique contribution to the community fabric. We wove these individual stories into a narrative that built from personal journeys to reveal a collective community impact. The result was a branded documentary piece about the neighbourhood, told by the people who know it best and have invested their livelihoods in making it thrive.
