‘A Burnaby Original’ community.

kʷasən Village is a 40-acre “15-minute neighbourhood” development in Burnaby at Willingdon Avenue and Canada Way, created through a partnership between the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations and Aquilini Development. Named after the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ word for “star,” this integrated community will feature residences, parks, local shops, specialty grocers, and comprehensive amenities within minutes of home, all designed to honor Indigenous values and connectivity.

Our video campaign showcases kʷasən Village’s vision by illuminating the community’s foundational goals, Indigenous-inspired values, and the genuine collaborative partnership between Aquilini Development and the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Through a series of four hero videos + their respective cutdowns (and across all platforms), we explore the many facets of this development, blending our filmed footage with custom motion graphics and architectural renderings to show this future community. Each video offers viewers a unique perspective on how this groundbreaking project will transform urban living while honoring cultural heritage.

The Challenge

In creating these videos, alongside our partners at Analog Design, Wallop Film had to navigate the challenge of visually representing a development that exists primarily in concept form. With construction yet to begin, our goal was to craft compelling visuals that would authentically convey both the physical aspects of the future community and, even more importantly, the deeper cultural significance of the partnership between Aquilini Developments, Musqueam & Tsleil-waututh nations.

This required the balancing of technical elements – blending renderings of the future space with footage that spoke to the broader idea & natural elements. We worked alongside the marketing team at Rennie to ensure the respectful representation of Musqueam & Tsleil-Waututh perspectives throughout the storytelling process. Additionally, coordinating approvals across multiple stakeholders with unique priorities demanded careful communication on our part – to maintain the project’s momentum while honoring each partner’s vision.

The Results

The first kʷasen Village video has already been launched online, creating valuable engagement across digital platforms including YouTube preroll – creating tangible excitement for kʷasən Village ahead of its market launch.

Most importantly, representatives from the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations have expressed appreciation for how their cultural values and collaborative input were meaningfully incorporated into the visual narrative. The campaign plan is to continue to position kʷasən Village not just as another development, but as a culturally significant community project designed to honor the past while creating an innovative blueprint for urban living.
